Crop Marks (Margin Marks)
What are those ‘semi-boxes’ at each corner of a Microsoft Word document?
These marks are known as crop marks or margin marks. They could appear in a Microsoft Word document when Asian languages are chosen.
I teach a computer class that shares computers with another class that has a few Asian students that switch from English to Chinese or Japanese. Occasionally they forget to reset the language option back to English. The semi-boxes that appear at each corner of a page are known as crop marks or margin marks.
To remove the crop marks, you must remove all support of the Asian languages. You will need the Microsoft Office Tools to remove the Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), Japanese, and Korean languages. To do this:
- Click Start
- Click All Programs
- Click Microsoft Office
- Move and click Microsoft Office Tools
- Click Microsoft Office 2003 Language Settings.
- In the Enabled languages box, select the language you want removed, and then click the Remove button.
- Click OK to update the language settings.
P.S: You can use the CTRL key to select more than one language; press the CTRL key, and then click the Remove button to delete those languages.
