I like the use of a watermark that allows the body of text to be seen while showing a word of warning to a reviewer or anyone with the document, that this is not the final copy to be distributed to a wider audience. Microsoft Word 2007 contains the following built-in messages: “confidential”, “do not copy”, “draft”, “sample”, “asap”, or “urgent”. These built-in messages are adequate in most cases, but I like the flexibility to create my own warnings such as “private use”, “not for sale”, “not for public”, and “not approved” as a custom watermark. Here is how I insert them in Microsoft Word 2007 for later use.
Click the Page Layout tab on the Ribbon.
Click Watermark, then click Custom Watermark.
You now see a dialog box titled Printed Watermark.
Click the third radio button labled Text watermark
In the Text: drop down box, click inside the drop-down box, then backspace or delete any existing text. Now type your message. While your inside the dialog box, you can change the type of font, the font color, its transparency, and display the message either diagonally or horizontally.
After selecting the custom choices, click the OK button. It’s that easy! And it’s your custom message you made yourself!
